Motivating Excellent Service

Top quality service is a result of happy employees who are proud of where they work and take pleasure in coming to work. With the long and strange hours that we in the service industry work, the often stressful environment that we work in, the intense pressure of some shifts, and contrasting boredom of others, it is difficult to ensure that your employees are always enthused to give excellent service. Here are some tips you can follow to create an environment that is conducive to promoting excellent service amongst your staff.

Competitions

Holding staff competitions focuses your employees attention on the customer as they try and work out if they’re a good fit for the item you’ve set or not. It also puts them on their best form in order to gain the trust of the customer for their upcoming recommendation. This all equates to producing excellent service.

Mention Rewards

Customers will sometimes mention their bartender or waiter by name in their online review when they were highly impressed with the service they received. Offering rewards, be them monetary or material, as an incentive for your employees who are mentioned for excellent service in an online review is a surefire way to increase the quality of service your customers receive.

Be Inclusive

Make your employees feel like they are a real part of your establishment by asking their input on certain issues; these can be menu related, decoration related, promotion related, or furniture and layout related. Including your staff in these decisions allows them to feel like more than just a cog in the machine and they will be prouder of where they work because of this. In turn, because of their pride, they will be giving their best to your customers.

Listen

Listen to your employees. Learn about them: where they’re from, what their interests are, what makes them tick and what really gets on their nerves. Listen to the stories they tell, remember who they are, and what makes them them. Doing this will allow you to, more easily, be able to pick up on when they’re feeling down or over worked. You can show them your concern and even offer assistance with their troubled; either by giving them days off or just offering emotional support. Doing all of this will make them feel valued in your workplace and, as a result, they will feel much more at home where they work and will be much more welcoming and service orientated when serving your guests.

The overall theme for creating good service is creating a good work environment for your employees. If they want to come to work, if they’re proud to be working for you, and if they feel respected and wanted then your employees will provide a much higher standard of service to your customers than if things were different.  Excellent service will have different standards and focus elements to it in different styles of bars and restaurants however your employees are always the most important factor when it comes to delivering excellent customer service to your guests; and this shouldn’t be forgotten.
